White Owl Shawl
In addition to the Diamond Dusters and Asymmetric Shawls, we have one more kit from Vijay Fibers to share with you! Like the others- the White Owl Shawl is 100% silk, and almost too luscious for words.
Each kit is a hand stamped cotton project bag with the White Owl Shawl pattern and 3 skeins of the mulberry silk Serenade. They are $125 each, and any sold out colors are available for pre-ordering.
This pattern is definitely for the Intermediate-Advanced knitters out there. Following charts is required, and it would be best if you had at least some experience knitting lace patterns. Don't forget to use a lifeline!
My favorite thing about the White Owl Shawl is the size and shape. It's shaped with 4 lace pattern triangles, with a leaf-motif panel running down the center. That unique triangle shape also helps the shawl sit effortlessly on your shoulders, so there is less time spent fussing over it while you wear it. It's an amazingly generous size, especially for only using 3 skeins! This shawl is flattering and whimsical on anyone who wears it. Even a large-framed gal like myself can wrap up in it and feel satisfied with how it drapes and fits over my shoulders.
The lace design is beautiful, and it really does resemble cascading feathers. Since most of the shawl is in one main stitch pattern, you begin to recognize and remember the pattern as you knit it- which makes it a little bit easier to do as you continue.
Another interesting thing is that the shawl is knit from the bottom up to the nape of the neck, which is the opposite of what you usually see with triangular shawls. While it means you CO a large number of stitches, it also means that your rows get shorter and shorter. Like knitting downhill!
Serenade is such a gorgeous silk yarn. It has every ounce of drape, luster, and buttery softness you'd expect. The sample in the photos used the Natural color, but there are other beautiful choices to choose from. Sage, Yellow, and Steel Blue are my favorites, how about you?
