Last week an incredible new yarn arrived in the shop, and over the weekend Laura whipped up the sweetest pair of mitts with just 1 skein. We're calling them the Snuggle Mitts, and after wearing them for this blog post's photoshoot- I can confirm that there is no name more appropriate!
Lhasa is a luxurious 50/50 blend of Cashmere and Yak. Anything knitted with this yarn will undoubtedly be super warm and super soft, and the heavy weight means it knits up in a flash. But don't let the quick-knit gauge fool you... Lhasa's chainette construction traps air inside the yarn, giving it a lightweight feel and a lot of loft for how chunky it is.
The Snuggle Mitts pdf is available to download for $5,
but we'll give you the pattern for free if you purchase Lhasa.
These mitts are knitted on US size 8 double pointed knitting needles, and the majority of the pattern is simple stockinette stitch. Purl ridges from reverse stockinette provide as an edging that's clean and easy to do. If you're a newer knitter, don't let the thumb gusset scare you away. This gusset is not too complicated, and it really gives your mitts a more professional look and fit.
As I mentioned earlier, you only need 1 skein of Lhasa to finish these mitts. Nonetheless, there is enough yardage to add to the size or length of your mitts, so you can make them fit you how you want. Our sample was knitted with the grey color #3, but I happen to love the teal #7 and the purple #12. What do you think?
