This week I’m re-sharing one of Harry’s popular hat designs, which can be worked up with 100g of a worsted weight yarn. That means you have a lot of options- however some are definitely better than others! With a cable design like Rivulets, you’ll want a solid or mostly solid color and a nice bouncy wool- so you emphasize the stitch pattern instead of distracting from it. We think Adelaide is a beautiful (and affordable) choice!
Remember watching water flowing back into the ocean from the tidal changes, or low water in a creek in the midst of summer chasing its way through rocks? Rivulets seeks to capture that playful dynamic flow of bygone childhood afternoons spent building rock dams and watching the water dance around them.
The Rivulets Hat pattern is $5 to purchase by itself, however if you order 2 skeins of Adelaide- we'll give you a copy of the pattern for FREE!
The Rivulets Hat is written for 4 different sizes: 12-18 months, (Child/Teen, Adult, Adult Slouch) and the sample shown in the photos is the Adult size.
The sample Rivulets in the images was knitted with 1 skein of the Swan's Island Natural Colors Worsted Weight, however since that yarn is mostly sold out, we are suggesting the soft 100% wool yarn Adelaide. This warm merino wool yarn has beautiful stitch definition, and each colorway is lightly heathered- which adds a touch of depth and texture.
The hat's ribbed brim helps the hat stay snug, and the cable pattern flawlessly transitions into neat decreases. Who doesn't love a good clean hat crown? You also have the option of adding pom-pom as a final touch, which is especially cute for the 12-18 month size!
With Adelaide, all of the color options are so nice- it’s harder for me to decide which colors I don’t like. I honestly love them all! I adore that pink Dried Rose and the blue Storm Cloud, but Ivy would be lovely, and even the brown, white, or grey neutral colors would result in an incredible Rivulets hat! There’s something for everyone and every style.
