Revisiting the 3 Color Cashmere Cowl
Last February we featured the beautiful 3 Color Cashmere Cowl knitted up with Folio Luxe- which is an alpaca blend with a touch of sparkle. That said, we love love love this pattern! We remember that you really liked it too, so we re-knitted the design using the absolutely dreamy merino and cashmere blend named VIP. Same pattern, but very different results!
The yarn and pattern all together costs just under $50.
I love that this cowl is like a sampler of stitches. With a new texture or pattern every few inches, you definitely won't get bored knitting this one!
The size and variety of patterns within the cowl also makes it fun to wear. It seems like every time you toss it on, it's a totally new piece! The drapey folds hide and expose different elements of the design as you move around, and the close fit is warm and comfortable. The cashmere and merino blend in VIP is exactly what you want to snuggle up with on these chilly autumn days.
The 3 Color Cashmere Cowl is knit in the round, with no stitches more complex than S2kp (slip 2 as if to k2tog, k1, pass slipped sts over). Since the instructions are written out, and the patterns are both simple(ish) and short, this would be an excellent project for an intermediate-beginner who wants to try out new techniques. Give it a go!
One thing to note about our new 3 Color Cashmere Cowl sample, is that Laura knitted fewer stripes in "Band 2". She only knitted 8 stripes instead of the intended 18. Nonetheless, assuming you match the pattern's gauge, you will have enough VIP to knit the pattern exactly as written.
The best part about knitting the 3 Color Cashmere Cowl with VIP? The color combos! Honestly, there are so many directions you can go. Make it all neutral, all bright colors, or mix and match! Laura chose the two neutrals: Brown #13712 and Coffee #12530, and she added a bright 'pop' with the Teal #4992.
Playing around with colors combinations, here are a few of my personal favorites:
