Project Inspiration: Ocean Kelp
Yet another incredible design from our own Harry Wells! A lace shawl, full of drape and luster, with a stitch design reminiscent of the kelp forests that are hidden just below the water's surface- swaying to and fro from the invisible yet mighty ocean current.
Ocean Kelp is available to download for $6.00. It uses 4 skeins of Cotton Classic, which is only $6.50 a skein!
Cotton Classic is truly an excellent yarn choice for this pattern. The mercerized cotton shines like silk- or perhaps- like kelp glistening on a sunny beach. The cotton's uniform twist and superior drape shows off the stitch design beautifully. The best part- since it's so affordable, this Ocean Kelp's yarn budget will only run you $26.
You will need to read charts to follow this pattern. If that's something you haven't done before, check out my blog post with a few tips on understanding them.
I love the generous finished size of Ocean Kelp. You can easily wear it in front like a kerchief, in back draped over your shoulders, or even scrunched up and worn like a scarf. Since it's cotton, it breathes easily and it's strong enough for lots of wearing and washing.
The Ocean Kelp colors you see in our photos sold out immediately after finishing these samples. But there are still a ton of Cotton Classic colorways to fit anyone's style. I especially like Burgundy, Latte, and Deep Leaf Green. Since you only need 4 skeins- you have a lot of options!
