Revisiting: The Lone Star Vest

Posted on

It doesn't matter what season it is, our weather year-round requires us to wear layers that we can easily pile on and shed off. So this week I wanted to revisit the versatile and lightweight Lone Star Vest that uses the soft and drapey yarn Telluride.

The Lone Star pattern is available to download for $6. The sizes XS (S, M, L, XL) use only 4 (4, 5, 5, 6) skeins of Telluride, which are only $10 each.

The pattern plus all of the required yarn will only cost you $46 - $66.

Not bad for such a cute Alpaca / Linen / Donegal Tweed vest!

Since there are no sleeves to fuss over, knitting the Lone Star Vest should go surprisingly quick! The bottom half the vest is simple stockinette stitch, and the top bodice section is decorated with cables.

One interesting detail on Lone Star is the button closure that runs up the back. It reminds us of vintage vest designs, and it's a sweet opportunity to choose some fun buttons to compliment the colorful tweed Telluride

Telluride is a breezy, light, and beautifully soft tweed yarn with a lot of texture and gorgeous colorways. The alpaca and linen combination gives the Lone Star a lot of natural drape, and the fabric will keep you insulated while remaining cool and breathable.

Telluride has such a wide range of options, there is definitely something for everyone. Go with something neutral and easy to wear, like Ash or Mouse, or choose something bright with a lot of character like Bud Green, or Crimson! My personal favorite is Faded Teal.
