12 Knits to Gift: Funky Chunky Cowl
For the cousin who is always in style
We're already on #6 for our 12 Knits to Gift series! Today I'm sharing a seed stitch cowl that Laura knit up with one skein of our new super bulky weight Funky Chunky. It's a one skein project that only takes a couple of hours to finish- exactly what we want this time of year.
Besides it being quick to make, bulky weight knits are very popular right now. Everyone wants chunky accessories to cozy up into! This cowl is joined in the round and worked in plain Seed Stitch- which is a mindless and meditative pattern to knit. Mention the Funky Chunky Seed Stitch Cowl in the 'notes' as you check out online, and we'll include a free hard copy of the Seed Stitch Cowl pattern with your yarn shipment.
Funky Chunky is a super bulky single ply 100% wool yarn, which is super soft and dyed with deep saturated colors that look silky and lustrous. Each skein is like a big plump pillow and the yarn knits, crochets, and weaves up into full bodied warm fabrics. Funky Chunky is $30 a skein, but that's not bad considering that most accessories would only need one. Since big yarn needs big needles- we recommend using circular US size 15, 17, or 19 knitting needles. We wanted a lofty and light feel for our Seed Stitch Cowl, so we used size 19*. If you want a tighter knit with a heavier and warmer feel, move down to size 15. (*note: as of 12/1/15 we have sold out of size 19 needles. We have ordered more, and they will be arriving within the week. Sorry for the inconvenience! If you would like us to contact you as soon as they come in, please let us know)
I know a couple of people who have already knocked out a few of these cowls for Christmas gifts- and I'm one of them! They really are a breeze to knit. They're the perfect project to work on while cuddling up on the couch with some tea and a good movie. Enjoy!
