Project Inspiration: The Bottle Rock Wrap
Summer is coming to an end- woohoo!! The average person doesn't necessarily share that sentiment, but I know more than a few fiber artists that are just as excited as I am. Knitwear season is upon us! The weather is certainly changing- the mornings and evenings are getting foggier, the wind is starting to have a crisp bite, and even the clear afternoons remain brisk despite the sunny skies. I couldn't be happier about it. One more thing that has me excited about cooler weather, is the yarn & project that I'm about to take home. It's going to be the perfect layer-able accessory for fall, and it's such a mindless knit, I know I'll have it done with plenty of time in the season to wear it.
The Bottle Rock Wrap couldn't get too much simpler. It's a wide stockinette rectangle, striping two unique Alchemy Yarns, with a button sewn on for closure. The yarns it uses are an unexpected pair: the ever-evolving silk tape yarn Silken Straw, and the fuzzy mohair, cotton, and silk blend Tweedy. I think that this combination is incredible. The lustrous and smooth Silken Straw is a stark contrast next to the fluffy and soft Tweedy, and both yarns work together to create an unbeatable texture.
Like all Alchemy patterns, we're happy to be able to give you the Bottle Rock Wrap pattern for free when you buy the yarn! Specify that you're doing this project in the 'notes' section during check-out, and we'll include the pattern with your yarn shipment.
The fabric created by these two yarns is so lightweight and airy, but since it's mostly silk and mohair- it does still insulate against the chill. I'll also mention that this wrap is S-O-F-T. Tweedy's light halo just begs to be pet, and if you've ever worked with Silken Straw you'd know that it ends up with a wonderfully soft and luxurious texture- especially after a handling and washing it. It's like magic how much it changes.
This wrap requires 2 skeins of both Silken Straw and Tweedy (4 skeins total), which gives you a nicely-sized wrap that even a voluptuous gal like myself can wrap up in. The addition of the button gives you the ability to wear the wrap whichever way you find comfortable and flattering, plus you don't have to constantly worry about the wrap falling off as you wear it around.
The Alchemy palette of hand dyed colors gives you a lot of options for combinations! I'm taking home some of the Shaman Silken Straw & Hwy 1 Tweedy, but I put together a few other pairings that I think you might also appreciate. In the images below, from top to bottom and left to right, here is: Tiger Silken Straw & Arrowhead Tweedy, Pyrite Silken Straw & Dude Ranch Tweedy, After the Gold Rush Silken Straw & Salt Lick Tweedy, and finally Flint Silken Straw & Buckskin Tweedy.
P.S..... Did you notice the cute beaded knit necklace on the mannequin in the images above? Yeah, that's one of our Holiday Beaded Necklaces, and you can make your own in our upcoming class! It's $25, 3 hours, and materials are included. You can check out more info and sign up by CLICKING HERE.
