Project Inspiration: Undulating Colors Cowl
We’ve been reveling in the magnificence of the micro-brew yarns from Alchemy that I introduced you to in last week’s blog post. We do love them, but we also recognize the fact that finding a pattern can be difficult with such a limited supply available.
Take Synchronicity as an example. This yarn is so yummy. It’s a supple 50/50 blend of silk and wool. The single ply gives it that smooth, buttery feel and the silky shine makes the colors simply radiant. However, since most of the colorways only have 1 skein available, it’s a challenge to figure out what to make.
We’ve designed something to help you out. The Undulating Colors Cowl uses 2 skeins of Synchronicity- 1 skein in each color you choose. We will include the pattern for free in your yarn shipment.
This cowl is outrageously simple. The Feather & Fan stitch is an easily memorized 4 row repeat, and it is the only pattern you need to follow throughout the entire cowl. If you know how to knit, purl, yarn over, and knit 2 together- you can do this pattern.
What I like most about this cowl is how it feels, and I don’t only mean that it’s soft. It is soft, incredibly soft, but I really like the weight of the finished piece and how it drapes and sits on your shoulders. It just feels so sophisticated and classy… it just feels good.
Since the pattern is so easy, the “difficult” part is choosing colors that work well together. To spark some inspiration, I made a few combinations I think you might appreciate.
Let me clarify that making color combinations isn't hard at all with the Alchemy palette... but deciding on just one is incredibly challenging. Luckily this is a quick knit, and would make for excellent gifts- so you can make a few different pairings!
