Project Inspiration: Annabella's Cowl

Posted on

Maybe it's the warm weather motivating us, but we've been on a serious roll finishing shop samples! This past week Chrystyna finished knitting a project out of some silk and mohair, and it will be especially nice to wear once temperatures start to cool down in a month or two.

The Annabella's Cowl pattern was released by Churchmouse, and it naturally caught our attention because it combines two gorgeous Alchemy Yarns. Using two skeins of Silk Purse and one skein of Haiku, this cowl sits close around your neck- which is exactly what you would want once you felt how incredibly soft it is. Silk Purse feels like butter. It is so smooth, and the single ply makes it a plump DK weight with an amazing amount of natural silky luster. Haiku is an ethereal silk and mohair blend, and it's surprising to me that the skeins don't just float away- they are that light. The combination of the both yarns is so delicious! They complement each other beautifully. Since they are held together throughout the whole cowl, the fluffy mohair gives the silk purse a halo that reflects the already vibrant hand-dyed colors. If you can't tell from the photographs, the cowls practically look like they are glowing.

Chrystyna's Annabella's Cowl was knit up the Forget Me Not Silk Purse as well as the Forget Me Not Haiku. Using the same colorway in both yarns is safe, but there are also a lot of options for making different combinations. The teal Annabella's Cowl is an example of pairing different Silk Purse and Haiku colors, however, don't go looking for those colors in the shop- they sold out almost immediately after they arrived. But never fear! We just got in a shipment of other colorways, and none of them disappoint.

I've heard people remark that when it comes to Alchemy Yarns, "you could make great color combinations with your eyes closed!" ....I don't disagree with that statement, but I did keep my eyes open long enough to put together a few color combinations that I think you'll appreciate. Below from left to right and top to bottom you'll see (1) Forget Me Not Silk Purse & Morning Glory Haiku, (2) Chica Pop Silk Purse & Garden Party Haiku, (3) Whiskey Silk Purse & Shaman Haiku, and (4) Lapis Silk Purse & Lapis Haiku.

Which combination do you find the most tempting? For myself, the Forget Me Not & Morning Glory combo jumped out at me right away, however, the longer I stood there looking at all of the options..... the more ideas I had. Have you ever worked with Alchemy Yarns before? Please share what you think, we would love to hear from you!

    Hi Barb!

There is a link to the cowl pattern in the blog post. The sweater is the Sandshore Cardigan, and you can find that pattern here: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/sandshore

Love the cowl and the sweater—where can I find the patterns for both of them?
