Saturday, August 28th 2010 NATURAL DYEING WORKSHOP
NorthCoast Knittery will be hosting a dyeing workshop with Linda Hartshorn on Saturday, August 28, 2010. This will be a one day workshop. We will create six different colors on wool yarn or silk fabric with dyes from plants, minerals, and an insect. We will use traditional dye materials such as madder and cochineal. We will also explore dyeing with fresh wild plants. The mordant’s that fix the dyes to the fiber (alum and iron) are safe to use and give a wide range of fast and beautiful colors. All necessary supplies and equipment are provided, but please bring the following with you to class: old clothes or an apron and rubber gloves. It is suggested you bring additional yarn or fabric to dye as time permits. Additional yarn will be available for purchase from The Knittery.
